Highlights

• Under the aegis of IQAC, the Department of Life Sciences & Allied Health Sciences, in collaboration with Sant Baba Bhag Singh Institute of Nursing, organized a Women’s Health Check-up Camp at the site of OPD Physiotherapy, Block 17 inside the university campus on 13th May 2024.
• The objective of the activity was to provide healthcare services, especially to the female group (including both students and employees) of the university and nearby villagers to promote their health.
• About 40 students (20 students from the discipline of Physiotherapy, 10 students of Allied Health Sciences (MLS students), and 10 students from the Nursing Institute) participated enthusiastically in the camp.
• The event was headed by six faculty members: two each from the Discipline of Physiotherapy, Medical Lab Sciences, and Nursing Institute.
• About 78 visitors, including university girl students, faculty members, non-teaching staff, and women from nearby villages, attended the camp and took advantage of the services provided.
• General health check-ups of camp visitors were carried out by a team comprising 6 students and one faculty member from Sant Baba Bhag Singh Institute of Nursing. They monitored the height, weight, and blood pressure of each visitor and counseled them on regular monitoring of their vital parameters.
• The Physiotherapy students provided treatment services for cervical, muscular, and joint-related issues. They guided and demonstrated exercises to strengthen muscles and joints and improve flexibility.
• The MLS students performed general diagnostic tests like blood sugar and hemoglobin estimation. Eleven visitors were found to be diabetic with high blood glucose levels (250-300 mg/dL) and were advised on regular monitoring and diet adjustments.
• The camp concluded at 3:30 pm with positive feedback from attendees, who urged the organizers to conduct more such camps for the health benefit of employees.
• Overall, the health check-up camp was a successful initiative in promoting health awareness and ensuring the holistic well-being of the women community studying/working at SBBSU campus and residents of nearby villages.
